i totally agree. i haven't decorated the house for years now! even the idea of exchanging presents causes me anxiety. what if they hate what i get them. what if i do something stupid while they all watch me open my gifts. what will we talk about over the holiday meals? ugh. too much stress makes me depressed and i'm depressed that i can't enjoy the holidays. once upon a time i could....

I loathe the holidays. I honestly wish I could go into a coma for the winter months and come out of it once the month of April arrived.

Yes, this is old news for me. My family doesn't really care if I'm around for the holidays (making plans without me, etc.) So, a lot of my holidays have been spent alone. I've always hated it.

Even when I'm with them...Did I get the right gift? Did I buy enough? Am I good enough? Will my brother talk to me? Is everything in order? etc....Too stressful, too emotional.

Holidays are not for me.

I feel the same. The holidays make depression worse for me. I try my hardest for my 2 children even though they are 16 and 19. Because of losing our house etc.. it will be lean again this year. I am just thankful we have a roof over our heads this year.

holidays are always hard here. too many memories of what they once were with loved ones who are no longer here.
some advice. you say you are christian. if you cannot decorate your house, go to services for the holidays. reach out to your church family. maybe they can help you get a tree or set up some decorations.

I havent missed Christmas mass in years..so as far as that goes, I wont stop doing that. I also think since my kids are all grown up, that is part of why Ive lost interest in the holidays. I get together with some of my family & my husbands family, but I pretty much would rather stay at home, order pizza & watch tv...I know, pretty lame.

sweatingbullets..are you serious?? That is so sad, I cannot even fathom asking my child that. I will pray for you, please dont do it. I have been there many times, believe me. Your dad obviously loves you. I would be totally devastated if I thought my child were going to end his own life. Please find something to hold on to. (((hugs))))

@ SweatingBullets - That just sucks. Sometimes i really don't think people take those of us who are depressed seriously or know how to deal with it, so they say stupid things for lack of having something else to say. P;ease hang in there!

Sweatingbullets, what your dad said is way out of line. He should never have said that to you. Stick with us on this site. We will only encourage you. You deserve kind people in your life. We care.
