Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
But I took a year off travelled to Africa and came back to do a social work degree. Africa gave me perspective, that maybe I don't need all these material things, these achievements to be happy. The people I worked with in the village had what we would consider nothing, but they were always smiling. They had their family, their community and they had their next meal. That's all they needed.
I think we tend to overcomplicate life. I think our society pushes us into constantly striving for more, and even though we don't know what more we could want we still look for something, something that we don't even know what it is.
I guess what I'm trying to say is what helped me was gratitude, acceptance. Life may not always be easy, but we make it through, we keep going because there are things that are more important than just us. By quitting and trying something new I found my purpose. My purpose isn't to spread news, it's a lot more simple. It's to help people. And helping people makes me feel alive.
Do you know what your purpose is?
