Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Sometimes just knowing you are not along in how you are feeling is helpful. Are you on meds? Maybe you need to have them adjusted. I wish I could offer more help, but I am in a very bad place myself. I am here to listen if you want to vent, though. Try to hang on and take it one day at a time, one hour if necessary. It is too overwhelming to think any further ahead, for me anyway. Talk to us.
OTHERS AND I HAVE BEEN THERE AND SURVIVED TO A BETTER LIFE THEN BEFORE. THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT GENUINELY CARE ABOUT THE PAIN YOU FEEL AND TRYING TO GET YOU ON A PATH THAT IS BETTER.
I have felt what you are saying so many times. At one point, I had felt that almost daily for over a year where I was literally struggling to survive. No one I was around cared and I was on the phone with support to get me through because I had, at the time, lost everything. I was on unemployment for a while, I was going on disability because I had a car accident injury that kept me from working and escalated depression (I also had to stop dancing when that is the only thing that made me thrive), I got kicked on the street by relatives I was staying with for 3 months when all this was happening and every person I every loved was out of my life. i had no one at the time. I also grew up with emotional, physical and sexual abuse in the home. I had so much anger and despair and when you are in that state of mind it is not healthy because one negative thought that keeps circulating will lead to continuous negative thoughts and the only way to come out of it is literally forcing you to think postively about life. I foundd what helps is listening to hayhouseradio, making a list - no matter how hard your circumstance - of all the great things you have to offer and have had or are around you, write the steps that are necessary to get you out, write a list of all the people who have meant so much to you and have impacted you and what you learned from them (even if you got hurt or your both grew up and changed), think of all the people who are worse than you with health - cancer, AIDS, starving in poverty, that don't have the resources you do, research people that have overcome tremendous obstacles and thrived like Oprah, Alicia Keys or Maya Angelou.
Despite my childhood circumstance, especially grow-up disadvantaged, I ended up at UC Berkeley with a lower than average gpa. Following college and after my year of trauma, I went back to school for career training and am now making a great salary in a great location with a nice apartment and will be interning for a one of the highest level municipal agencies for my career. I have also been regaining my dancing ability.
I still struggle because of the depth of my abuse, but I've been through over a year of serious survival and four where I had felt that regularly. Some pieces have healed, others will not and some will take longer but quicker with the right people and loving support. It is how we are built as humans and that is what makes us great. Had I succeed at what I thought was a good idea at the time because I couldn't (and it is so hard to do) see through my current state, I would not be on the path I am. My career field is also highly competitve and I have managed to get to a quality role.
SO PLEASE HOLD ON AND GET HELP!!!
