Hey guys. I just don't know what to do anymore I'm 16 years old been fighting with depression and anxiety for a while. The thoughts are getting the best of me each day because I keep thinking I'm worthless, nobody cares what I have to say and I'm this forgettable person. I've thought of self-harming on top of this but have refused but is getting harder to fight each day. I just don't know how fight this anymore.
BCat1000
Shorty, sorry you are feeling bad. Do you take medicine?
Shorty220
no not yet they are thinking of putting me on some but I'm kinda scared to be put on it because I don't know if it will work or not.
BCat1000
Shorty, don't be afraid to try. For most of us, medicine has been a tremendous help. You need to go back to the doctor immediately and get started. Your feelings are normal but medicine can really help. Please understand that feelings of self-harm come with depression and are temporary. You are very young, get treatment and have a great future,
Shorty220
Thank you I will. Just getting really harder to handle like I mean I barely talk to anyone I rather be sleeping then anything else because of all the thoughts. I try very hard not to act upon my feelings of self-harm because I keep on think of my dad and thinking he would not want me doing this to myself. The other week was so bad that i cried for two or more days straight and thought about self-harming but really really refused it. And i went into the counselor and told her that. And i brought up many be should try the medication even though i'm afraid to try it after what happened to my dad 3 years ago but at this point I'll try anything because I've been fighting it for a really long time. People finally found out back in October about it and now they are treating me different because of it.
BCat1000
What happened to your dad?
Shorty220
He committed suicide 3 years ago he had depression and biopolar.
BCat1000
I'm so sorry kiddo. Now I understand. Know this, I don't want you to become a statistic, What I mean by that, the odds of you having these feelings are very high due to the loss of your dad. It is SO IMPORTANT that you get on a treatment plan, Depression can make you feel so hopeless. It tricks your mind to think suicide is the only choice. Don't let it trick your mind. Seek help and break the cycle. If you need to, change schools so people don't treat you different. I am proud of you for reaching out. Go a step further and get on medicine. If the first medicine doesn't work, go back until you find the right one. I am with you.

It's okay. Just am trying my best to break this cycle so I don't do what my dad once did to me to my own family and friends. And depression definitely makes ya feel hopeless I can agree with you 100% on that I've feel that so much over the months. To be honest I don't like that feeling. And it definitely tricks your mind into thinking suicide is a choice but with me I've thought it many many times but I keep telling myself it is not a choice you shall get through this because your dad would never want you to do this, plus I look at my little cousins every time I see them, and they need me more then ever because they look up to me. So i'm doing all i can to get through this but many times i often want to give up but they are my reason i keep going. And I've thought about changing schools but I'm not going to let it bother me anymore if people treat me different it's me and I'll try by best to get through it. And I will if the medication doesn't work at first I'll keep going back to find the right one no matter what. And thank you

You are on the right track. You have a great attitude about school (I love it). Just to let you know, it took my brother-in-law four different anti-depressents to find the right one. They can give you Xanex to take along side the anti-depressant to help with anxiety. You might feel weird for the first few weeks on the new medicine. It should pass but if it doesn't go back and ask for another option. You will be feeling better soon. I know it, Please report back. Also, make sure you are getting good sleep. Talk to your mom about an over the counter sleeping aid if necessary, Sleep is so vital to feeling better.
Shorty220
Thank you. :) I'm just hoping I'm doing the right thing you know, but I know it will take time but I'll do what ever it takes to get through this for them. And I'll talk with them about anxiety as well when I go in for the appointment next and when they talk with me about the anti-depressents. And I will definitely make sure to get good sleep and if needed I'll talk with my mom about over the counter sleeping aid if necessary. And I'll definitely report back. I'm just hoping all of it works out.

Great things are about to happen to you. Time helps, medicine helps, family helps. Lean on your mom during this transition for you into treatment, Talk to her everyday once you start medicine and tell her how you are feeling. There are little things also, if the medicine makes you tired, take it before bed. If it wakes you up, take it in the morning. Take it a day at a time. You are already doing the right thing, Keep going. I'm proud of you.

Shorty220

Honestly, high school will be the hardest time of your life. And fighting the urge to cut is nearly impossible. I completely understand. My best advice is to try your best not to isolate yourself. Once you are with people and exploring the world, the urge isn't as pushing. And I know it doesn't feel like it, but two years will go by fast and once you are an adult, everything really does change. I promise.
Shorty220
It is high school is the hardest time and it's impossible to fight the urge. But I've tried not to isolate myself to much but often times it happens I mean I hardly talk to anyone anymore because of some drama that happened last year with my old friend group and no barely any of them talks to me. But I've been just kind of trying to find my own path you know, just trying to figure out where i belong.
