Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Like GrammyBear, I depend on my dog, Anya. I would shut down completely again if I hadn't gotten her. Good dog.
When a person is in extreme pain, they can't ignore what they're feeling. It's there. It would be extremely difficult to not think about that overwhelming pain that is ruining every aspect of your life, if you get what I'm saying.
I'm pretty sure it's that way for any other severe, painful illness, whether it's mental or physical. My mom was saying something about this the other day about how she doesn't like to think about her multiple sclerosis because it makes her sad as well as her thinking about me having depression, anxiety, seizures, my undiagnosed neurological condition, etc. Although she tries to not think about it, I know that she can not help but think about it because she is always in pain. Some days are worse than others, but her pain never goes away.
I was going to post a topic like this when my mom mentioned this, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to present it/word it.
For example, I happen to have a very big scar on my stomach. It's about 12 inches long. I almost never think about it even though I see it every day. I almost never notice it. I wish my anxiety and depression were something I could just not notice...
