Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It often comes down to sheer willpower, about pushing through, getting over that hump that says I'm going to quit, and getting out there and trying. No one can make another person try, that is why you just have to do it. After a while you begin to see the pattern, that the more you try, the more things you realize you are capable of. This builds self-esteem and things get easier.
I know what I'm talking about. I was so afraid to leave my terrible marriage until I forced myself to begin making some personal changes that built my self-esteem. After that, I pushed myself out there to do things I did not want to do, and then gave me momentum. In time I was able to leave the marriage and then I tried more things that were very uncomfortable for me, but I pushed through. I am simply not the same person that I was before. I still have a slightly shy side, such as when it comes to public speaking, but I am not the shrinking violet that I used to be, and I am so happy to have learned the lesson that getting over the tough spots is called LIVING.
