I'm at the end of week 3 of generic Effexor XR at a very low dose - only 37.5 mg - and can seem to get past the side effects. The two big problems I'm having are dizziness and mild nausea.
In the first week I couldn't even stand for three minutes without becoming so dizzy I had to lay down or I was going to drop. That lasted for the first week and it's better now, but I never feel quite right when I'm standing up. The mild nausea still comes and goes too.
My PDoc wants to up the dosage and I'm concerned that the side effects are only going to come back/get worse at 75 mg. Historically, I've been a real poster child for side effect problems from SSRI's.
Any input appreciated. If you quit because of side effects, how long did you tough it out? If you stayed on it, how long before the side effect problems became tolerable?

I am on Effexor XR 150 mg for about 5 years now. I honestly have to say this drug has been my rock. The only issue I have had in the past was high blood pressure, although that was due to my pituitary tumor.
I am on Atacand Plus for my blood pressure, although I exercise daily and have no issues anymore with the pressure. My PDoc wants to lower and wean me off of Effexor, because she doesnt like how it raised my BP in the past.
I am concerned. She said Effexor is a more difficult drug to reduce and come off of, and that she wants to do it in long term stages. I am fine with that after hearing about other members on here... I am scared LOL What is this "Brain Zap?!"
I am right now placed on Divalproex 500mg X2 doses daily. And it has been causing me mad nausea! I also had tonight, my second day taking it some palpitations, not to mention what seemed like fever break out. However, that has cleared and I feel fine now. Does anyone else have had this issues?
Also, I am on Lorazipam 3 MG daily (as needed).
