Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Be gentle with yourself. If you can wait, don’t make a decision right now.
It’s better if you can ask advice from your parents. When my son was deciding which school to go to in college, it was also hard for him. He applied in 13 schools and when it’s time to make a decision he was struggling which one to choose. We prayed for it and now he’s happy with his choice.
Please keep us posted. God bless you.
I've been working on my issues that my mother's and sister's abuse caused, and that has helped my overall mood. But I'm not sure which of my interests are genuinely mine, and which ones they pushed me into, if that makes sense. I know at least one of them (the one I'm in school for, Egyptology) was a coping mechanism, and I don't know if I'll still be interested once I'm more healed. Additionally, I really want more financial stability than that field is likely to provide. But my other interests are so varied, I really don't know which one would be best.
Adding onto that is the general frustration of being in my 30's with no real career, just menial retail jobs, and no real experience away from home besides my time in undergrad. Ultimately it just means I'm a late bloomer and there's nothing wrong with that, but my options are more limited than they would be if this had happened in my late teens/early 20's. And really, I know that I'm tying my self worth too closely to my work, but it's really hard to break that habit.
