Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I didn\'t like how the medication made me feel at first...I didn\'t feel like..me.. but after a while I felt much better.
I still have times that are difficult but I am alot better on my medication.
I guess for me I thought I could control my moods and felt weak if I needed medication.
Thanks for your reply...so many of my patients feel the way you do..that is it \"weak\" having to take a med...most believe depression is rational and you can talk yourself out of it so to speak. I also think SSRI\'s were stigmatized in the mid to late 1990\'s. Now that we know more about depression (from imaging like PET scanning and good clinical trials) and the poor prognosis associated with chronic untreated depression it appears antidepressants +/- therapy (cognitive behavioral psychotherapy) is the way to achieve remission. I really appreciate your input as should others...remember in developed countries depression is the number 1 cause of disability.

I\'m begninning to wonder if I needed them at all. We are about to go through IVF and I\'m on birth control pills right now and I haven\'t felt this good in a long time (I\'m off the Lexapro). Seems like my issues were hormonal or something. Does that make sense? Isn\'t that what postpartum depression is about? Hormones?
I hate being on any kind of medication...in fact when I first start taking an RX I get all freaked out and am afraid to sleep the first night because I\'m scared of side effects and that I won\'t wake up... it\'s a phobia I believe...lol.. I used to know that name of the phobia.
You\'re very fortunate and I\'m happy for you.. that is great you found the problem! I\'ll have to stay on my meds cuz not only will I be misserable, I\'ll make everyone else around me unhappy and worried.
Good googly moogly... our bodies are so complex aren\'t they?
I guess I feel bad for people who haven't been through anything.I would rather be depressed than blissfully ignorant.I've noticed most of my friends on medications stop having philosophical conversations or thoughts and after a brief period of being happy, get MORE depressed.
Also, therapy just isn't my thing.I don't like the idea of paying someone to hear you out.I have radical friends for that.
