My sister suffered from depression.  Though I was able to witness a change in her mannerisms, I could not quite understand what was wrong with her. To know that my sister was struggling with something like that, was so shocking to me. It took me a while to accept that she had this problem. After her diagnosis, there was an incident that occurred which lead her to be hospitalized. She been out of the hosptial for about 2 years now, got her own place with her kids. Everything seen fine now, but sometimes I get concern for her because she start to act weird and distance herself from her family. Is there any reason why I should be concern? Is it possible her depression can come back?

Depression does come back. It can be stable as long as your working your treatment plan, i.e. taking your meds and seeing your Therapist. But rarely does is ever go away and not come back. Its not a curable illness, it's a manageable illness.

I appreciate your concern and love for your sister. I'm no doctor but would agree with the poster above that it is something to manage. Life's stresses can certainly bring it back. So definitely tell her of your concern and desire to support her. Your willingness to understand her and connect can be a huge comfort because depression often isolates. There are things you can read to better understand depression so you are better able to watch for troubling signs. You know your sister I'm sure, but just make sure she knows she's not alone!
