I have been very depressed these past few months. Everyday I wake up wishing I hadn't. I took some pills and cut my wrist today. My dad came to me before I took too many pills. I just feel like I can't be forgiven for my past. I want to move on, but the memories are holding me back. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to forgive yourself and let go of the past? I've prayed, but I still feel down. :(

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

I think everything we do and everything done to us creates some kind of electrical charge in our brains. And when we have lies, or hide things, or don't confront things, the electrical charges tangle and become worse. And when we reaffirm the truth, they earth themselves and dissipate.
so we have to be true. We have to be uncomplicated and real. But that doesn't mean clothes rending and breast beating and hair tearing mea culpas in the village square. It just means accepting what you have done as being an act of a human being. Understanding that what you did was part of human nature. Learning where you went wrong. Discovering how doing harm without intending to can make you feel. And letting that feeling happen to you, flow through you, be fully experienced by you without you blocking it. You have to learn to accept not only what you have done, but the consequences of it. And then you may need to do something about those consquences.
Sometimes you have to confess to the person you wronged, and let them call the shots on fixing any consequences. But talk to a counsellor first before you do anything you can't undo!!
Hey, I just looked out the window and saw a beautiful male cardinal. I will be here for you if you want to chat just like the people above me. You have a lot of support.
I am sorry to hear of the pain that you are experiencing.
I agree with Bridgie, sometimes it helps to talk to someone. I would recommend a licensed counselor. (If you need help or recommendations, I know a place that will give a free phone consultation.)
I think that one of the greatest things that helps me to walk in forgiveness is that I know that I am forgiven. Jesus took the punishment for my wrongdoing. No matter what I have done, God promised to take away our wrongdoings "as far as the east is away from the west" (See Psalm 103.)
I am glad that you were able to pray.:)
I hope that as you continue to seek Him, that you would feel His love and forgiveness.
God bless!
