Beautiful day yesterday so Al and I got out the Harleys and they had the first big Harley ride of the year called the Polar Bear ride. . .. About a thousand bikes..
We got out to where Als kids and grandkids live in Cedar Fort and a gentleman with his mom on the back of his bike, went to pass another rider, going about 55 or 60, and clipped another bike.. Both bikes went end over end.. Holly, Als granddaughter just happened to be behind in her truck and called 911. She then went to her house and grabbed towels.. The operator told her to hold the guys head up a little with the towels behind his head.. TRIGGER..
Holly said the guys head was smashed flat and it tore half his face off. He muffled a few words and then spoke no more.. The *life flight* helicopter landed and they shut down the roads. We went to Als sons house and waited.. The heli never took off.
Later found out that the gent died and his mom is in critical condition.. Neither had on helmets... Al and I dont wear helmets.. Made me think twice.. No helmet law in Utah... Very very sad day.... just wanted to share..

So very sad....I hope the mom pulls through with no lasting effects...

I have always believed that (same goes for me) if i am going to ride such a powerfull thing out on the road as i do i have a couple of motorbikes my self, that all the correct gear should be worn, yes it is a pain in the ass getting all my gear on to go out for a ride somtimes it takes me longer to get my gear on then it does riding! but my helmet has saved my life once thank god. and i know of a few off my biker mates will tell you the same thing that they would not ride without a helmet, it is not saying that we are the bad drivers or anything like that but most of it is other drivers, not being able to see bikes or not paying care to the road. ((((hugs))))
I can hardly believe your state doesn't have a helmet law! That's INSANE!
I can't imagine getting on my Dads bike without one!!
Seriously.... put a damn helmet on!
And yes, I have helmets.. I just need to put it on..
But I have a really good friend who is still alive because he wore a helmet!
Please Beastie, get a real helmet. And a real one, not one of those little plastic things that comply with state helmet laws but offer no protection!
I am so sorry that happened to people on this ride.
I have known people who were in bike wrecks who wore helmets and had even more severe head and facial injuries than people who didn't . Not trying to get into an argument but this incident sure does make one think alot .
