Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I feel like each day is a fight. Like I barely make it through each day and then it’s on to the next one. Living life is so much more difficult when in the back of your mind, all you think about is wanting to stop living. It just hit me the other day that not everyone thinks like this. That this isn’t normal. When “normal” people go to sleep, they probably think about what they’re going to do tomorrow or plans for the weekend or something. When I’m lying awake in bed, all I can think about is how surprised I am that I actually made it through the day and how I don’t know if I can do it all again tomorrow. I’ve been told that life has its ups and downs. That one day I’ll look back on this time and I’ll see how glad I am that I did the work and pushed through. But I’ve waited on that one day for too long. I’ve just gotten more sad. It hurts me that when others look at me, they probably see laziness or “untapped potential.” I’ve had people tell me that happiness is a choice. It hurts me because I AM trying, constantly. Every breath I take is me trying. Sadly, it’s as simple as that. I am just in so much pain - mentally, emotionally. And I want the pain to stop.

I used to feel very similarly to the way you do. I didn't know what I believed about life and that left me making ambiguous choices---no real direction in my life. Then, I met Jesus and He showed me profoundly how much He loves me, and I was born again. When that happened, I kept wondering what I had been thinking before that! How did I not see Him before?? He filled me with joy and peace and I have never been the same since.
YOU are worth so much to God and to those around you, even if you can't see it right now.
I would like to tell you about a very recent time when I was feeling sad and a bit weighted down. It took about five days of increasing sadness for me to see that I was feeling depressed. When I finally realized it, I asked God what was going on? Why was I feeling down?
Then, I realized that I was discontented with a few things in my life and I had let them take my focus. So, I did what I've done many times before. I started to thank God for all that I had in my life without complaining about anything I DIDN"T have. I thanked Him for the comfy chair I was sitting in, for a warm house, for blankets, for clean water, and it went on and on. As I thanked God, my burdens lifted and I felt great!
I'm really really sorry for the weight that you are feeling and I will pray for relief and joy for you, dear one.
