Crashed and Burned...

I wrote a post 3 weeks ago, saying how well I was feeling and how I had tons of energy. After 3 weeks of hard core labor on my house and new to me truck. I went on a tool shopping spree, over $10,000. My tools were stolen many years ago, I was tired of not having my full set of tools as I did when I was a Professional Auto Mechanic. I couldn't stop until I had everything I wanted! I was so sore, I took some time off to heal up and still feel like shit 5 days later! Lol The docs have have said I'm not bi-polar, I am OCD Pure "O" Suicidal thoughts, which I have learned to combat. This episode seemed like a bi-polar episode big energy charge and then the big crash at the end. I also have Chronic Illness and pain in my gut. I think this episode qualifies as Bipolar type II. Not a lot of mania, mainly depressed. I will talk it over with my Pdoc. What do you think??? Ted

Spending 10 grand on tools sounds severe enough to be classified as full blow mania. I am also new to the idea of being bipolar and having been told I had major depression for 7 years. I would say talk to the pdoc and if not get a second opinion. also I'd suggest tracking your moods. The depression and bipolar support alliance has some wonderful resources.

You can have a Manic spending spree without a BP II or any BP Diagnosis, you have to meet certain criteria to meet the Diagnosis and if your Pdoc has evaluated you I would think he has a reason for not DX'ing you BP II.

As for the spending spree, as a 28 yr BiPolar who has to manage those kinds of things....I'm a big proponent of the laws of "Take It Back!" You do not under any circumstance reward bad behavior...you bought the tools that you can't afford under whatever mental illness, so take them back. You don't reward yourself, especially when you realize and understand that what you did was wrong......take them back...

Kat, I have an automotive lift in my garage, I make extra cash on the side. I am an ASE Master certified Mechanic. I don't want a wife or girlfriend minding my business! Buying the tools put me back on track so I can make extra money fixing cars in my garage. I designed my house for a proffessional mechanic, 3 car vaulted garage to accommodate my lift. 1,000 Sq ft. with a 3200 sq. Ft. House attached to it. $300,000 house, all brick and stone. PAID FOR! I think I manage my money very well, Thank you! Ted
