Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and I am cracking under the pressure.
Life has always been a struggle for me mentally, but the past 4 years have been particularly rough as it feels like we have experienced a series of bad events. It has been particularly rough since my dad passed away in October 2012.
When he passed away our finances changed for the worse and everything fell on my shoulders since my mom can't take care of things with her issues. I had already been battling anxiety and depression for years and this stress does not make anything easier. I do not get any understanding or support from my mother either. It's just me alone trying to claw for us to survive. It creates a lot of stress and worries.
I am working really hard to get well so I can change my situation. I want to be employable and eventually go back to school so I can do something with my life and have a decent paying job so basic living won't be so stressful.
I am on medication, I attend weekly therapy, I attend a weekly support group, I attend a weekly workshop to develop a recovery plan, I have a peer specialist I see once or twice a week, I exercise daily, and I am probably going to start attending a second support group. I started doing ABC thought logs to combat the negative thoughts. Not to mention here I am on DS.
I'd be lying if I said progress has not been made. I have made progress and I am not in the same position as when I joined DS shortly after my dad has passed. Yet it is very slow and sometimes it is frustrating. I would love to see a real payoff for all of my hard work. I would love to see more good in my life instead of bunch of bad breaks. It is hard being patient when I need the relief now.
On top of that I lost a friend who was very dear to me. I was treated very unfairly and poorly for standing up to someone who was making hateful, ugly, hurtful comments. Yet I was treated as I was the hateful person. I was not offered an ounce of forgiveness yet it was okay for the hateful person to say ugly things about others. I always chose to believe the best in this friend and they chose to see the worst in me. And what was the worst? Trying to stand up for those that were being judged with ugly comments. It really, really hurts. I tried to do what was right but was deemed "not good enough." I have shed so many tears over this. I try to do my best to put it behind me and focus on my hard work, but I am so sensitive. It still hurts.
All of this has been eating at me. Sometimes it just feels like too much especially the financial stuff. I feel like I am cracking under the pressure and then I beat myself up for not doing better.
I know I can do more and I am going to try to my best. I just wish I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I also feel like such a fraud sometimes because I try my hardest to encourage others, but I don't have it all together myself. I am trying so hard, but I have not reached my destination yet.

Do you think anxiety is genetic or comes from your environment? What are your thoughts?

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

I highly recommend that you do not associate with others that like to hurt your feelings. Choose your friends wisely.
As far as finances go I recommend looking for extra support through United Way. They have everything from clothing to job support to food banks to career councilling etc. http://unitedforimpact.org/our-impact/211
THIS I understand fully. I went through and am still going through something quite similar. I needed to hear that almost, just to know I'm not alone on this. I feel as if these situations don't happen to people. Every time I mention this situation people just claim I'm trying to "point fingers" and "play the victim". That's not the case but I can't for the life of me convince them that I'm not...I have reason for what I've done. It's saddens me. To think - there's an unlimited possibility in this universe and yet my set of circumstances seem so "unbelievable" that people don't buy it? As if it was something to "buy" . It's just not and breaks my heart to be misunderstood after already being shunned.
I'm sorry if I seem to be going on a rant about myself...but I understand, I too see two doctors and am always on here to help myself recover and the journey seems endless.I'm here to talk I guess if that's what you want to do.
you.. a fraud? NOPE. You come here and you have no idea how much your support means to me and others .. you give it so freely and with your heart of gold. I know you got deeply hurt by the situation you mentioned and you know my feelings. Let that go.. put it behind you.. it's hard.. but you did nothing wrong.
I am so proud of you. I am SO HONORED to be your friend. Things are just gonna keep getting better for you. I know it. I do.
HUGE HUGE LOVE AND HUGS...........
Me.
GB - I love hearing about others going back to school because it gives me hope. Right now I am not decided on what I want to do yet. One of my potential choices will be a somewhat stressful program/career so I will need better coping skills before I jump into it. But I know going back to school and a job will be two of the biggest boosts to my self esteem when I finally get there!
Elsairene - Don't feel bad for sharing about your situation. Like you, it helps to know I am not alone. I am sorry you are going something similar. If you want to talk about just message me any time.
LMT - Thank you. Once again you have brought tears to my eyes (I am so emotional lol). It really helps hearing that. It's easy to lose perspective when we are struggling with this beast so sometimes I really need an outsider to snap me back to reality so to speak. I am so hard on myself, but you are right. I am doing the best I can despite all of my fears. In some ways I guess I really have come along way. I also know there are more things I can do especially with the financial stuff. I just filled out my mom's tax rebate form so that is one burden off of my shoulders and will provide some financial relief. Going to keep chipping away each day.
Much love and hugs to you all! :)
OKAY. I can't stand for you to be hurt by someone for standing up for others. Not enough of us do that. You have to do the things you believe to be right, especially for others. In my opinion, it would be wrong not to. That would be a terrible burden to bare, to know you didn't stand with someone that might not be strong enough to do it for themselves. Whatever happened, you were right. We all have problems, but that doesn't give us the right to hurt others or forget common decency. You are strong, caring, helpful & intelligent. Don't ever listen to anyone saying otherwise.
Family can make things so rough. Just a bit of encouragement can be such a big deal. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way. It's just hard to deal with everything on your own, even if you are not dealing with a disease. You are doing a good job. You have a roof over your heads. Be proud.
I am both proud of all you do to get well, and kind of worried that it might be too much all at once. But you know what works for you. I just know I admire all you are doing and that it encourages me to know and hope I will manage to be something like you.
My mom went to nursing school when she was 61 & passed higher than the kids right out of school.
she didn't get to work long because of health issues, but she was so proud of that degree. You go for it girl!
Okay, You are one of the most compassionate, caring, kind hearted, intelligent, amazing people I've met. You're awesome. Don't let anyone ever make you feel differently. and know in your heart that the financial worries will get better. Love yu so much!
I hope some day to see you in the same shoes as I am. If I can do it, I think anyone can. I think all that I do is what helps keep me semi-sane.
That is so incredible about your mom. I love stories like that! I love knowing it is never too late to go back to school and move up in this world.
Thank you for all your kind and wonderful words. Love you, too!
I was a good student, but I did not go to college due to my anxieties. It is one of my biggest regrets because I feel like I could've had the potential to be anything if I just believed in myself and had some support and direction along the way. I have gone through life thinking I am not good enough for anything or anyone. I just imagine how differently my life would be if I had gotten help a lot sooner, but I can't look back. Just focus on moving forward.
