Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

You may or may not know me, but my name is Jesse and I work here at DailyStrength. I'm writing to let you know that we're looking to add a Community Leader to the Depression Support Group -- so we'd like to know if you want to become one!
In case you're not already familiar with what Community Leaders do, they're vibrant members who volunteer to greet new folks to the group, offer positive and constructive advice in discussion posts, and help steer negative topics back on track (and occasionally close a clearly abusive discussion post, which is very rare in this group). If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a volunteer CL, please send me a private message with the subject heading of "CL for Depression". DS staff will then review the candidates.
To be considered for the role of a CL, we'd like to ask that you:
1. Be okay with having a profile privacy setting of either "Everybody" or "DS Members". That way new members can greet you back!
2. Have not received prior warnings from DS for violations of the Rules of the Road.
3. Have been an active member of the Depression support group for at least six months.
I'll leave this post up for a few days, and I might bump it up every once and a while so it stays on the main page.

If anybody has any questions about what is involved in being a CL, please feel free to send a PM to me or to WanderingVet.
It takes a fairly high number of hours here to truly see what the dynamics are, and an awful lot of emotional balance and evenness of tempre to be able to accomplish the job properly.
Someone who is divisive and given to heavy biases should never consider the position. It would have to be someone who is genuinely tolerant, compassionate, and inclusive.
It will command a lot of your time. You should be prepared to make some sacrifices in the course of this position.
Having watched for a long time, and having seen many incidents unfold here, it shouldn't be doled-out to a member, just because they are perceived as being "so nice to everyone". Some people are nice on the surface, and deplorable and agenda-driven, underneath.
I think anyone who is applying for the job should be investigated in depth....and, they should really BE, in truth, completely fair people.
I would encourage anybody who is interested to apply. If you have doubts, please feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to outline the duties.
I am sure there are many in this group who would do an excellent job.
