Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

On what basis were your parents permitting this? Or were you refusing to obey them?
Depression is all about disempowerment so don't grab the victim card too quickly. The bad guy card will actually do you more good so grab it when you can. What were your choices over those four years, and on what basis were you making them? Are they choices that you will make again or do you see something wrong with them?
Is there a lesson you've learned about human nature, about 16 yr old girls, about teenaged boys? About parents? what have you absorbed from this?
When you learn something valuable you have turned bad into good. That's all you have to do to overcome it is to fully understand it and learn from it. Understanding and empowerment are the cure for depression.
I'm not sure if you are open to seeing a therapist. It may help you to cope with the post trauma stress you might be experiencing now from your abusive relationship. You don't have to suffer alone. Hang in there. Praying for you!
