Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I recognize that this does not belong here, it belongs on the College Stress board. But my fall term starts Tuesday and I got no comments on that board for this post, which I now reproduce here in full...so I'm trying here because talking about this isn't helping my feelings much.
Ugh, it does seem like every time I show up here I have a new issue with something, just once I want to be able to just say something on others' posts. Anyway, here's mine:
I'm feeling really scared about this fall semester coming up. It's a bunch of things tied together, really.
The short way to put is that my schedule is going to be awfully busy. I work part-time as a pharmacy technician -- it's a backup plan in case my plans for paralegal go nowhere -- and we've had interns helping over the course of the summer. They're gone now, and the owner of the place has dreams of empire that affect the workload on my side of the pharmacy (group home deliveries). It's a lock that I'll be working a couple of days a week -- Monday and Wednesday specifically -- and Saturday morning is not out of the question.
Meanwhile. to stay on my AS track, I've stacked three courses up for Tuesday and Thursday (three because that's how many I need to get insurance), one of which has a lab component that meets on Friday morning.
Between the two, it IS a lot that I am doing, and that scares me in a couple of ways. One is from a stress standpoint...I am very bad at managing it to start with, but when the pressure is on, it feels a lot worse. It was a wonder I didn't crack as bad as I normally do during the summer, but then I only took one course at a time over the summer. This wouldn't be so bad by itself, BUT...
...there's also trust problems. Problems trusting others, problems trusting myself. This does not bode well because my chemistry lab almost certainly involves group work, and I've just plain been suspicious of people ever since my senior high school class ravaged my hometown in a scavenger hunt just before graduation (this I was not a part of). I'm starting to make itty bitty baby steps on the trust thing, starting with small things that are almost certain to happen (I have to start somewhere), but I feel I am in a position where I have to make steps on that front that I am not ready to take, at least not right now.
This is why I'm scared about the fall...very sorry for being so long.

First off. I am glad for you that you have two different back up plans. In these days it helps to not keep all of your eggs in one bascket. Next, I understand your pressure. I just recently graduated with a Bachelors of Science and my work load was tremendously heavy. I was scared too, but I took one day at a time, one homework at a time, and one exam at a time. If you have nice proffessor you might can talk to them if you get overwelmed and ask for extensions on certain assignments. I never liked the long hour labs I had to take. I liked the work, but standing on your feet for a couple of hours is not fun. Wear some really comfortable shoes. I know its going to be scary for a while, but for you to even do chemistry work means you have strength and determination. I congratulate you!
