Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Alcoholics/addicts often hold down full time jobs. Therapists are trained to help job people's memories. Do you have photos of your parents? Do you remember what the dinner table was like? What did you do on weekends? Maybe with your therapist's help, you can start with small things.
Best of luck with your therapy, and I hope you have a good day!!!
Good advice from Mginmn.
Sometimes just bits and pieces can paints a picture of your family dynamics.
Hope you find a good therapist.
Just a theory
I remember some abuses...........
I remember a blue or yellow wall..........
I remember good times with poetry and writing short stories...........
I remember church camp..............
I remember pot bongs and the sucking of the water when my sibs did drugs when I was small.........
I remember mom's death...............
I remember the 1982 World's Fair...........
I remember Girl Scouts...........
I remember school.....................
I remember the Summer paper route at 100 degrees, two miles each way, mostly flat but with a couple of hills........
I dont' remember much else; most of it is blurred..............I remember back then I was an actual PERSON. Now, I am a shell of a human being.
I definitely tend to remember the bad times because they were so much more frequent than the good times. There are a lot of pictures and super 8 movies when I can clearly see the camera stop when I stop doing anything but smiling prettily. I remember seething with anger most of my childhood but never being allowed to be anything other than the "perfect child".
