Yes, just sign off of chat. To do this, go to the Chat bar and click on the Friends tab. Next to your username will be a chat status (it usually says "Available"); set it to 'offline'.

Not that I don't love chatting - well....
But, sometimes it is too much and I hate being forced either to pretend happiness or to be overwhelmed and unable to help a person.
It makes me ruder than I want to be.
Also wish there could be a way to "appear offline" so if someone needs you, you can focus on them rather than have to be rude to others.
Who would we ask about this getting done, what with my tonnes of computer knowledge, would it be so hard??

If you are chatting with one person, and want others to 'leave you alone', you can set your MEEBO status to BUSY.
I have blocked everyone now, so it's not so much an issue. It's annoying when adding a new friend because I have to remember to block them too.
