Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
i was talking to a suicide helpline threough an online chat yesterday. At 9o'clock at night my family got a call from my pricipal asking if i was okay because there was a girl named Rylie that was thinking about taking her life and the hotline person thought she was at serious risk. My mom told her i was fine. I didn't want to talk about it so i pretended to be asleep. At 11:30 we got a call from the sheriff's office saying they were sending a team to come check and make sure i was okay. When they asked me what was going on i just said i was feeling sad and i basicly started lying my butt off. One of them even said, "just sad, because we have a report saying otherwise" They were very nice and caring. i was shaking so hard, i was freaking out internally. ONce they left i told my mom that i kindof didn't want to live anymore, and about my cutting. My momsstill doesn't know the severity of my problems but we are going to get a councelor. ANy advice on seeing the counselor for the first time...im nervouse?

The counselor is there to help you.
I felt so much lighter after that!
They have power. No one oversees them. They can make mistakes. This system is not perfect. But you need someone to help you. Someone who have training. Someone who knows a lot. Someone who is intellegent. This person can also be your worst enermy .
As for the first Counselor visit, as many have advised, just be truthful, honesty is the best way to build that relationship and they can only help you as much as you'll let them, try to keep that in mind. A Counselor or Therapist is there to help you, not judge you, or put you in a hospital. Its a specific type of relationship that has to be built on trust and honesty. It doesn't always work the first time, you have to "click" with each other, don't be shy to tell your parents what you need. Out patient Therapy works very well for many people. Getting all of the "stuff' out of your head and not being weighed down by all those thoughts and scary feelings is a really good feeling in itself. You can even write down questions to take with you, in case your nervous and have trouble remembering everything, keeps some of the stress off you as well.
Take care,
Kat
