Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Now the psychological stuff was terrible. I was often the target of slurs and other comments because I was socially awkward. I also endured some pretty rough treatment from my adopted father. He never really touched me but he could rip my heart out with his words. I would have preferred being beaten. Both by him and by the cruel kids at school.I spent a large part of my time at school from middlle school level to the first year of high school in a constant state of heart break. I know it's done damage but at the same time I got touhger too. I'd of preferred to remain my soft hearted self but it wasn't meant to be.
Kids have a tough enough time when they aren't "fitting in" you add abuse at home and no wonder they "break down." Some are just not payed enough attention to from parents and teachers. There are no easy solutions.Luckily a lot of kids grow out of being awkward. In my last two years of high school I found a niche. I wasn't very high up in the pecking order but at least I was somewhat known and allowed to be my own quirky self.
People would do well with learning some lessons in properly interacting with each other from the middle school level on up.At my work I have been to classes on avoiding sexual harassment and tolerating social and cultural differences. They could easily be adapted to a school curriculum. It just takes the commitment form the powers that be.Sorry for the long response but I think I have a little life experience in this subject.
And that is very sad.
