my 30 year old son who has never been in trouble made a huge mistake and is now on the way to prison for 6 years. There is an unbearable pain in my heart that I can not get over. I do not see the pain letting up anywhere in the near future. Constant memories and crying. Can't bear to open my eyes in the morning and realize this is not a nightmare. I also have fears of something happening because he is so naive and kind. I have another child that is 28 who also has a 9 month old daughter that I should be strong for but I just can't snap out of this. Any suggestions of how I can ease my pain would be extremely helpful.

I feel for you deeply... I don't know you or know the details of the situation, but I am hoping for the best possible outcome for you and your family. I can tell you're in a great deal of pain right now, and I am sorry you have to go through this.

I don't know any details, but he probably won't do 6 years. Might be even less than 1/2 of that. Regardless, .. it is not much help, ... but there are a LOT of people in prison doing a LOT more.

I advise him to do all kinds of extracurricular work and STAY OUT OF TROUBLE. That all looks good to the parole board.

If you need to, take some medication for stress and/ or depression. There is stuff you can take without prescription. A vitamin B shot may help. Pray that God watches over your son; keep on praying. This too shall pass, and all will be well, one way or the other.

If he got a 7 year sentence there’s programs for him to do , to get him out earlier , and usually with state time you do half so he could possibly come home a lot earlier , I know my mom had a hard time when I went away for 2 1/2 years when I was young but I wouldn’t be who I am today made me grow up , I havnt been back in 15 years , good job raising a daughter on my own so be strong for your son but be there for your grand baby

Derekcamaradas, were you in a florida prison. I read that you get gain time for programs but some people tell me no.

robotnik, the one awesome thing I got out of this whole experience is a whole new relationship with GOD. I started reading the bible and attending church as much as I can. I pray everyday to him to keep my son safe.

So sorry to hear about your son. I'm sure it will be hard but
maybe you can make the best of the situation. Sounds like
you are going to church.
If your son can use this time to work on his education, grow as
a person etc...it might be bearable.
It will be hard no doubt, for both you and your son and
my heart goes out to you.
Can you develop a plan for how you'll communicate with him?
Can you send him letters, call him, video chat.
He's lucky to have you. It's clear that you love him and
hopefully that love will sustain you both.

Yes, prison would have to be depressing. A large portion of his life is now without freedom. I can't even imagine how that must feel. But maybe this will be an "awakening" for your son. Whatever ill deed he got caught up in, at least he is alive and able to make amends; right the wrongs. This is an extended boot camp to make him a better person. Stay strong and believe he'll come out better in the end, now that what's done is done
