Right now I am just so sad. I feel so much loss in my life because of this damned illness. The greatest loss is time with my son and the fact that throughout his entire life I have not been able to be the mom he has needed me to be. Not a day goes by that I don't worry about him and feel guilty for not being able to function and take better care of him. I'm in bed a lot and even when I'm up I can't think very well and have trouble even being able to have simple conversations. My son is now 13 years old and I have missed out on so much with him. I'll never get that time back. It's over and done with and too late to turn back time and do it all the way I would have liked to do it. I wanted to be there for him and go through life with him and experience life together. And now it's just all lost. He's growing up and I'm still missing it!!! I can't take it any more. I can't stand the loss and the grief I feel about this. I am so broken hearted. I know that people will think that all I have to do is think about the time I still have with him and to focus on the future, but I'm still very very sick and there is no future for me. Never has been. How do I not blame myself? How do I not blame God for all of this? Why does God allow this to go on? Maybe I deserve to suffer but my son doesn't !!!!!

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

The guilt, and worry just feeds the depression more. You obviously love your son very much or you wouln't have posted this, or be feeling this way. That right there shows you are a good loving mother.
If we had any other illness would we blame ourselves? I try my best to show my son I love him unconditionally and that how I am feeling has nothing to do with him, and I try to do my best. Sometimes my best to me is not very good. You need to be as kind to yourself as you would be to someone else (a friend etc) who was in your position. Believe me I know it is hard, I still struggle everyday with feeling I am failing my child. You are doing the best you can and spend time with him in ways you can, instead of worrying about the things you can't do with him. You arenot alone in how you feel and I hope you can be nice to yourself and I hope you are feeling better soon.
And I'm not a religious person, so I don't know much about God. But I know how easy it is to blame him. But he doesn't give you challenges in life, that you couldn't handle. You should be happy that he gave you a boy that is both loving and understanding. And your son should be thankful that God gave him a loving mother, that trys to be there for him as much as possible. And if he didn't think you were capable of being a good mom, then he wouldn't have gave you a child. Sure there's mothers out there that are terrible mothers. But they're capable of being a good mom, they just choose not to be. But you're a loving mom, that trys to be there. And that's all that matters..
Sorry I started rambling, but I hope I helped. Even if it's just a little bit..
