Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hi everyone. Hope some of you will be able to advise on this.
I'm on a low dose (10mg) of citalopram (celexa). I've been taking it a year now. It's worked really well to take the edge off my anxiety/depression. Recently I forgot to take my dose for 2 days in a row. On the third day I started to experience what I think are "brain zaps". Anyone had them? I could hear a swooshing sound in my ears and feel it in my head, and a dizziness. This happened every few seconds for a few hours. I didn't know what it was at first, but when I took my dose of celexa as usual that night, the symptoms stopped. It makes me very fearful about when the time comes for me to come off this drug. My doctor previously advised that I double my dose to tackle my depression and now I'm scared to do that too. I never realised how powerful this "low dose" could be.
Anyone out there with experience of this?

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

If/when you do feel it's time to stop taking it, make sure you have a plan with your doctor. As old biker said, if you step down gradually, you'll be much better off. Good luck.
My overall health is good. No other medical conditions. No other medication. I was only ever supposed to be on these meds short term (while recovering from a break up) but over the past year of taking them I have felt a lot more able to deal with all the stresses of life. Besides, I'm still not fully over the break up. I was considering trying to wean myself off in the new year, but now I'm nervous. I think they've got a real hold on me. I certainly won't try it without tapering off. But at such a low dose I wonder how. It's 10mg - the lowest dose pill. Cut the pill in half?
Perhaps I should try another med but I was happy with the results I had from celexa. Maybe I'll be stuck on it for life?!!
