Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Sorry you are missing your husband. I've spent many birthdays alone and know the feeling. Try to do something extra nice for yourself today like I did for myself. And Happy Birthday.
Take a relaxing bath.. go buy yourself a little indulgence.. go out for a few drinks or coffee with a close friend.. whatever floats your boat. Today you need to celebrate the fact that you are alive - even if you don't feel like its much to be celebrating right now.
Grief affects people in different ways. You might feel some comfort in reflecting back on all of the good memories you have made with your husband. Look at old pictures. Think about how lucky you were to have met him and had him in your life.
There is,however, no law that says you have to feel happy on your birthday.Maybe it is a day, however, that you could more easily get through by calling family or friends, just to talk, explaining you do not feel like any celebration. If you can think of anything that might distract you from your sadness--might bring you some comfort--by all means, try and do that.I believe very strongly that your husband would want you to be happy,or to try to be happy, in general as well as on this difficult day.Something I did a year after I lost my close friend,on my birthday, was write him a long letter--telling him how much I wished he could be with me now.How much I miss him.It helped to make me feel closer to him,and it also reminded me of what I knew he would say:that he would want me to to learn to be happy again, even without him physically around any more, save in thoughts and multiple cherished memories..But that's just me--perhaps I should not have dwelled so much on the past,on that day. However, it's YOUR day--to do with what you can do,what can give you the most solace, diversion, and encouragment at this point in your life. It's still about the long process of healing.
I am very sorry for your loss.I believe that you can find(or have) a way to keep your husband a close part of your life, more a presence than an absence to you, some day.I believe, too, that he is watching over you and hoping very much to see you heal--to see you one day feeling happy again.
That said--Have the very best birthday you can have.Hold on to what you have,to what you need. Best wishes that next year will be far better.
