Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Are you seeing a regular doctor for your meds or are you seeing a p-doc? If you are seeing a GP- well that's your first big issue. When you have cancer you see an oncologist and when you have mental illness you need to see someone who specializes in mental illness. There are set standards for the diagnosis of depression and bipolar although there are nuances that only someone well versed in mental illness will pick up.
I get the feeling though that you've already diagnosed yourself as bipolar and unless a dr agrees with you, you don't really want to hear anything else. Not the healthiest approach- although many take it.
Are you insane? Isn't crippling depression enough? Without all the pseudo highs and what not that comes along with this sht, Ive had it for over 20 years.
You should be careful what you wish for.
I'm sorry this post just makes me MAD!!!!!!!
You are right, finding the right diagnosis is the best thing to do. Knowing what is going on inside our heads is a HUGE thing, and very helpful when it comes to allowing us to manage our recovery.
Possibly because atleast with bipolar you get to experience some elation (although manic!); depression (especially) chronic you get nothing.
for the original question, i was hospitalized twice, both times labeled depressed, my shitty pdoc at the time ran me thru 6 AD's in a handful of weeks time, only to highten my mixed state(hence hospital)
they didnt pick up on it in hospital, they just tried to get me stable.
it wasnt until i got a good pdoc and he dx'd me bipolar 2.
im now in the early stages of treatment and acceptance, other than an identity crisis i feel better....
