Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My father was an alcoholic and I met him for the first time when I was in my 20s.
I've said all of that to say this... I have serious abandonment issues and I am on marriage #2... My husband and I have not seen each other since our daughter's memorial service last September. It's easier for him to be away from me while I grieve, go through my depression, etc, than to find a way to love me the way I "NEED" him to love me.
Your marriage is young. I know it is easier said than done but... if you really want your marriage to work, you need to let go of your past. It's the only way you will not drive yourself crazy. I'm not certain if you are in contact with your parents but, I have severed my ties with my mother. I am allowing my children to form their own relationships with their grandparents. As for me, I need healthy relationships for the rest of my life.
I pray that I have helped you in some way.
I got married at 22 and my exhusband had a 5 year old son. Thank fully the son lived with his mother because I caught myself treating him the same way my stepmother treated me. I hated him and felt threatened by him. I feel ashamed when I say this now but I didn't know better back then. It's been 7 years since we've been divorced and 6 years since I started therapy and I cringe when I think of what could have happened.
I am still deeply affected by how I was raised. I fein it hard to have a relationship last more than 3 months and I find it hard to love. For the most part I am always alone.
I'm sure your husband loves you and will continue to support you. Hang in there and please know that there are millions of women who are going through the same thing as you at this moment.
Both my parents are deceased and although I miss them deeply, I am so emotionally scarred. Hopefully, therapy will help me with letting go of the past.
