This is the first year, possibly ever, that I've been totally alone for Christmas. Granted most of my years were spent with my horribly dysfunctional family (complete with my mom calling the cops one Christmas).

But this year I have nothing, no one. No family, no friends. Its pathetic. I'm trying not to wallow, but its really difficult when everyone else you know or even overhear in stores has someone to spend Christmas with.

Anyone else in the same boat or am I the only mutant?

I would be in the same situation except a neighbor invited me to drive 3 hours to his family's place for Christmas (ride with him). Soo, not the same .. but I will be with people I hardly know. Truthfully, I would rather stay home .. alone except for my adorable dog. I could handle it pretty well. I would be OK knowing this is a happy day for the majority .. and that is good. Doing Christmas alone is doable .. time for peaceful thought. Peace comes through, somehow on these days.
I have done Christmas alone before .. several times.

Yup, you're not alone. In my opinion it makes it a lot easier not to deal with the whole family mess, but I do understand being lonely. Being your first year it surely is hard, but you can get throught it. Go out and get yourself a little gift to open tomorrow and get something good to eat that you like. I wish you well and know you aren't alone when being alone. Like lucysdad said stay online and maybe reach out to someone else who is down in the dumps like I am. It seems to be lifting my spirits. I would love to offer my family to you as they are irritating my positive day! Seriously, I think someone last year suggested going to a local hospital to volunteer on Christmas and I thought that was a great idea.

This mutant will be alone for the next 3 days. Family is scattered all over the USA and Canada.. and taking a break from visiting Mom for the Holidays.. would rather be alone.. may regret it.. but hunkering down and trying to enjoy it.. watching Christmas movies.. getting Chinese take out.. .. catching up on reading.. and sleeping.
