Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Family, friends and well-meaning sympathizers are awesome, but at the end of the day, the most they can offer is sympathy (feel sorry for you), when you could really use empathy (they feel sorry for you because they, themselves, have "been there, done that."
but still, you are here. You do have people who understand this aching need to be touched, held, understood. And you have to resolve to try taking some little baby steps to make things just a bit better in your life. I get deeply deeply depressed, and I do something proactive. I force myself. I either force myself to READ positive things, or I came here, that was hard, I hated being here the first few days, but I did it. stuck to it. I do affirmations, hate them too, but if you do them regularly, it does help, sort of rewires your brain... I also have this one image I force myself to see. I force myself to see a swiftly moving river, white water, rocks, the kind of river no human would think of trying to swim in....yet there they are... those salmon...herds of them, not even swimming down stream, those fools are swimming UPSTREAM. what's with that????? FOOLS. stupid, crazy FOOLS. And I watch them try and try and try and try to surmount the next huge impasse, the next huge leap up and up and over these huge rocks, and somehow, they make it, they are bloody, they are bruised, but those darn fish keep going, upstream and why???? To Life. It's all about LIFE.... we humans aren't the only ones who have obstacles to face, mountains to climb, life is hard for every living creature.... I see those salmon swimming this epic journey because that is what they have to do inorder to continue LIFE. They have to return to where they were spawned and spawn their own. It is that simple. LIFE is the struggle... and all our failures are successes if we learn from them. Keep trying. Keep going, keep fighting..... you will find what you need when it is time for you to have it..... that's the way of the world, maybe you need this time to learn something, focus on something else.... soon. soon you will have that one special person that will hold you and help the pain to recede.
