I'm beginning to realize that maybe all of my relationships with others are very codependent. I was codependent on my drug addicted fathers sometimes there sometimes not so much love and presence in my life. I'm still unable to form friendships and especially relationships that are healthy. I'm very untrusting and when I do fall in love or become good friends with someone I try and hold on to them as though it's life our death. I hate being alone but have gone from being outgoing to awkwardly shy. I want friends but I've always felt a little different and wondered why anyone would want to be friends with me even though I've been told I'm smart beautiful and kind. I'm a good person but I feel weighed down by the pain life can send. I was just wondering if anyone else has any of the same feelings. I was searching for faith, and still have been, religion/God wise, and started to wonder if I can't feel what others who are healthy feel because my intentions are codependent... I need things and people to make me feel okay. I know this is so not right but it doesn't change. I'm mortified of not having friends so my best friend is a mean selfish irresponsible girl I no longer have much in common with.. My boyfriend is emotionally abusive and has also been physically in the past. I stay because I want to be loved and feel OKAY. I've struggled in the past with a pill addiction, and although I'm sober and stay away from pills, I still smoke. I feel that's a codependent unhealthy habit... I just don't know how to get past this. Any book movie blog recommendations? Thanks y'all :(

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

Read my profile. I have been here for almost 5 years. I have been through much pain, hurt, rejection in my life. I am older now and I will be a friend to you if you choose. Check me out with those on my friend list. They will tell you what kind of friend I am.
Don't worry you are not alone in those feelings. I was in a group of friends that were unhealthy and i knew it but i was so scared to be on my own that i stuck with them for a long time. Now I am not friends with then anymore but hanging on to that friendship has damaged me further mentally. All I can really recommend is Therapy and if possible to get away from those people and create some new friends.
Good luck and i'm here if you need to talk

Best of luck to you, If you ever want to talk, feel free to message me.

Needing people is normal. Being alone and still being right with yourself is a skill that has to be learned. You must practice it. There is no reason for you to be abused, and you cant heal if that is happening.
For a long time, I needed love to survive. Then as I started to let myself go and not look so attractive, (which Im working on very slowly to become attractive again) I found those women I wanted only wanted me becuae I looked decent. Then I learned I had some issues, and started to work on them until my incodent.
You must take yourself out of those situations. You know that you need people to feel better, now try to flip it and get right with you.
I hope this helps! I probably made no sense..LOL.
