Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hi all,
I'm basically writing this because I have no one in my life (other than my therapist) I can talk to. I have no family to speak of. I'm mid 40s. I've recently divorced and moved to a small town (the large city I was living in with my wife, where she had grown up, was giving me a lot of anxiety and there were additional issues with our relationship).
But now I'm alone. Totally. I have a visual disability which isolates me and makes it very difficult for me to form relationships, and I was raised in a *very* dysfunctional household which hasn't helped from a social point of view either. I'm trying desperately to find ways to connect with people in a meaningful, long lasting way. Life is very difficult when you feel no one really cares about you.
The feeling of loneliness is getting so bad again that it makes it hard to do basic things. In the back of my head I'm thinking what's the point of doing it, there is no one who cares. What future is there? More of the same for who knows how many years?

Everyday I feel more and more sick. Being in pain every day, I've learned to disguise it. So well that others don't believe my pain when I speak of it. Needing help but only receiving negative responses, I find my way but pay for it later. I absolutely need the rest but there's pressing things to be done.

Ugh my depression is really being triggered by the grief of losing my mom. Ugh it sucks. I wish this pain would leave me already.

Just a lil FYI.. the crisis centre doesn't get looked at as often or by as many people as the general depression board. I find that when I really really need folks it's easiest to find support when I post on the general board.

I'm very sorry you are feeling this way right now. Loneliness is something we've all felt here at some point or another (or currently..) and it sure as hell doesn't help with depression. You can always rely on people here at DS to listen and to show you support. There are some really great people here and I hope you take advantage of everything this site has to offer :)
As for meeting people in "real life" have you tried taking up any hobbies or joining some local clubs, churches, or organizations? Doing those kinds of things greatly ups your chances of meeting people who share similar interests and values and might develop into a meaningful friendship or other relationship :)
I still feel depressed and lonely, but I think my dog Penny makes it all just a little easier to handle.
