Is drinking while taking effexor a bad idea?

I would say yes. I think most medication comes with some warning to say its not avisable to take alcohol at the same time.

One of the main reasons i wont take meds...

I know the warnings say you shouldn't...but all that seems to happen is I get drunk faster so then I just stop sooner.

Alchohol is a depressant and effexor is an anti depressant so ya not a good idea...I think one drink in between doses wont hurt but don't go on an all night bender you will regret it.

talk to your doc. my doc said it is ok but not often and not too much 1 once in a while. but do not get the impresion. it is ok to drink all the time ask doc.

the alcohol washes away the meds,something like that........the meds will not work if you drink.

I am on effexor XR also and I noticed that the only time I did have a drink I ended up even more depressed so I decided it just wasn't worth it. :)

yes it is a very bad idea. unless you want to get drunk after one drink. but you dont need to drink when you are on any medicine. best to call the pharmacy, chemist.

No it's not a good idea to mix alcohol and drugs (prescription ones)

I wouldn't....but you could always check with your GP (if you're in UK) or a pharmasist in the USA

Never mixed good for me. A depressant and a antidepressant will rarely mix.
