Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hello everyone,
First of all thank you to everyone who've given me hugs and feedback. Everyone has been so kind and supportive.
My question is I have anxiety, depression, and ADHD. The ADHD is the least of my worries, the anxiety is what has usually taken center stage for me. I've been on and off prozac for about 2 years. It seems to really do the job for the anxiety, but it seems to make the depression worse. (which I know doesn't make sense since it's an anti-depressant) I'm not sure if this is truly the case or if just having the anxiety under control the depression is surfacing more. I know I need to get in to see my psych, but was curious as to others experience. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Namaste,
Chelle

My depression and anxiety are trotting along neck by neck. I have been taking prozac for about7 months and I am not better. As I have said a 100 times but never get much feedback. Isn't there a difference between Pain and Depression because of life situations as opposed to depression or mental illness caused by chemnicals in the brain. Not even my Dr. answered this. It i is just a reaction combined by who you are and what you have become(due to life) how does Prozac help? Valium helps cause it numbs you. Prozac only changes the chemicals in your brain.

Thanks for the feedback jloz. It's a good question that I've asked myself lots of times, where my "issues" come from. My mom is extremely anxious, and doesn't do anything to deal with it. Lots of depression, bi-polar, etc in the family too. So I've wondered if it's the chemicals in my brain I inherited from her, or being raised by someone so anxious rubbed off on me. Not to blame her, she did the best she could and was raised in much worse conditions then me. I have definitely thought about getting off the meds completely though. It's my goal for sure, but now's probably not the best time for me to do away with them. I think I know what you're getting at though, for me it feels like a band aid and not a permanent solution (no offense to anyone, I know meds have saved many lives, and I don't see taking them as negative at all if that's what's right for you). For me though when I'm on meds I feel somewhat disconnected from myself like, am I feeling this way because of me or is it the meds.

yesday I was walking the same block I've walked for a year. I walked pass the German Shepards house and he came out the door of the fence and went straight for my yorkies neck. I went into Mama bear mode jumped on the back of the German Shepard all 100 pounds of me and wrestled with a German Shepard that weighs more than me. When I jumped on him like a horses back. I had dish gloves on and...
