Has anyone else noticed that the types of ads that tend to show up on this site are very much the type of ads that compound a person's poor self esteem?
I keep seeing ads for getting rid of wrinkles, ads for diets and weight loss pills and programs, ads for legal wills.... um... yeah.
Somehow it really bothers me that those are the types of ads on this site. I mean... a lot of the people using this site feel bad enough about themselves in the first place... they don't need to be reminded that they (think they) are wrinkly or fat....
Though.. I suppose that diet and skin care ads dominate most websites in the first place... I just certainly hope that companies are not purposely targeting depression and self help forums to exploit the already weakened...

I look over and think "Im on this site to support my resistance to ED thoughts, yet there are all of these weight loss adds...."
It bothers me. As much as I try not to let it too.
The advertisers look for buyers for their products. The ads you describe are reaching an advertising base of over 300,000 active DS members (folks who have opened an account) plus the billions that can "view" DS on the internet.
Of course the advertisers are looking for folks that they think will buy their products and are paying DS the big bucks to advertise here. DS needs the revenue to keep this site going.
I do hear you however & I find the one with the not so bad looking woman getting her skin care then looking like a model highly amusing!
.......must be annoying to them....that some of us just block the ads that keep this place going monetarily.
oh well! LOL.
The one that made me crazy was "is your man gay?" Seriously, what if he is? What if I even HAD a man to begin with? Do you genuinely care?
But yeah, weight loss...those horrid before and after pics....among others....wonder if someone upstairs realized they weren't the best thing to show on a health and wellness website.......
