Well, it sounds like you are extremely intelligent...I would parlay that talent into the job that you would really enjoy. I have a BS in history and I realized that I love public relations and marketing. So I got my MBA. You don't necessarily have to go back to school...think of ways that you can cross over to a new career. Are there particular interests that you have in social sciences?
Once you acquire a job that can allow you to be independent the rest of the items will certainly happen.
Those are just my thoughts. I agree with you though. Love the work you do and you'll never work another day in your life. We spend too many hours dedicated to work to not be happy.

I think you should get your driver's license first.
There is a freedom that comes with driving that nothing can compare to.
If you are dependent on others your opportunities are limited.

Hi, I hope you find your way out of your situation. I am also Jewish. I was born in New York but live in Colorado. Life can be very difficult. I have a degree in Social Work and a PhD in Psychology. I retired very young. I am 68 now. I always thought I would have been happier if I got my degree in Math. I must be hard at your age to depend on your parents. I have a good life, but have moods that make we unhappy more than I like. Can you combine Math with something in Social Sciences.

Thank you. Had I been intelligent, I would not have been on the dead -- end road since 1994. My net worth is a debt of $60K in student loan.

many students here in the US have alot of debt after college too. mabye there are options out there for you. keep talking and someone is bound to have an idea.

Thank you -- my therapist is also Jewish. I was born in Moscow and came to USA in '84.

Thank you. Actually, mathematics up to Bachelor's level is useful in life. But beyound it is really really boring to me.

Why did I agree to do a PhD in it?

Today many people with good degrees have trouble finding work in their field. I am sure you are doing all you can. There is much competition. Do not give up. We all have to change direction and try new things. I have had to do that. I have been living in Israel for part of the year for 3-years. There are many Russian Jews here. I find it hard to live here. We bought an apartment, which is taking forever to complete. I had a hard time with a Russian woman who wanted to take a wall and door and window out of the apartment without consulting me. She works for the builder. She was very adamant. Can your parents help you pay off the loan. Have you thought of coming to Israel? I have tried to live here 3 different times and I always get anxious when I am living here for a long time. I also became more observant while here and now I am having regrets. Is your biggest problem the finances? Thank you for writing back. Welcome to DS. I would agree, getting your driver's license would be a great first step to independence. I know how hard it is to live on a fixed income, although I get a few hundred dollars a month more than what you do. Can you go back to school and get classes in a subject that you love? I know how hard it is when you have outstanding student loans, but doing what you love is beneficial. I hope you are able to work something out.

I should have done so in '94. That would be great. But I depend on my parents 100%, so I pretend to work in my mathematical semi-unpaid position.
