Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
If you were to go to the ER and tell them you were having suicidal thoughts, yes, you would be put in a psychiatric hospital for diagnosis.
If you go willingly, that means signing yourself in, then you could get out in 3 days, or 72 hours, if you are no longer a danger to yourself.
No one likes a mental hospital, but it might save a life.
You cannot get "over" what is wrong, IMHO. You truly need to go to a doctor or clinic (can call your hospital and say you are depressed and want help) and they can then diagnose you and prescribe medication and/or therapy (talk). You CANNOT will these thoughts away. Trust me on this. But you CAN get much, much better if you get help .. probably that includes meds. So what? If you had diabetes or any other disease what do you do? You go to a doc and get meds and you feel better.
Isn't that what you want, Ray? To feel better? You don't have to tell the world you are doing this ... you just have to tell your doctor. It beats feeling the way you feel now.
Please give it a try.
Mental Illness gets a bad rap, and that is ashame because it is just like physical illness only in the brain. Not your fault, and not under your control.
You have nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain.
