Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Feeling great about yourself one day and having doubts the next are all part of the "wonderful" (yeah right) experience of being human.
Just remember that your thoughts are NOT reality and just because they pass through your mind does NOT mean you need to entertain them or believe them. Just let them float by like clouds in the sky. There are MANY great books on this topic. The only one I can think of off the top of my head at the moment is "Happiness is a Serious Problem" by Dennis Prager.
Meditation is a good way of learning to look at your thoughts more objectively also.
or if you find yourself beating yourself up..say "no" or "stop". verbally try to fight it. these are our demons that bring us down. it can be a constant battle.
oh yeah, one more thing i found helpful not to be depressed which ties into being mean to yourself...is to plan something to do w/ someone...it'll give you something to look forward to. for example..i'll invite one of my kids friends over for a movie, or call a friend and ask if she wants to walk the track w/ me.
think o sumpn GOOD!
