Depression - Teen Support Group
Teen depression is marked by persistent sadness, discouragement, loss of self-worth, and loss of interest in usual activities. Depression can be a temporary response to many situations and stresses. Teens may be more susceptible to depression due to the normal maturation process, the stress associated with it, and conflicts with parents as they become more independent.
There was a time in my life where I felt as though I was left out to pasture. I mean, I had my close family nearby me, at least my loving husband and young children, but I really didnt feel that important to anyone. And I feel as if most of my troubled feelings and thinking came out of my difficult childhood and young adult years. I also know what its like to live with a mother whose tension, anger and frustration seemed constant, at least most of the time. Im happy that you have at least two significant others that you can depend on to talk to; or at least you have others to help you feel certain that you ARE a human being with some value and pleasing identity. As a fact, it was also for me the few friends that I had giving me shelter or a reason to avoid going home at certain times. The point is that when you start to feel suffocated by familial circumstances, it is time to step away from the dimensions of damaging emotional family living; and not so by the dangerous way that you are thinking such as ending it all. Take the healthy route. Keep in mind, you have value as a person, and you deserve to live in a loving, peaceful and acceptable environment, even if it is just you and your trusted friends, and outside of your mom's home. Let me tell you; if I could go back to those sad days at home and talk to that girl or young woman I was then while living with my mother, I would tell her to identify with the type of person she was at that moment and not try to blend her hopes with what others expected her to be or become in life. Every person has a right to their own, personalized identity. No matter by what conditions. People learn what not to do by experiance; and not by the trials of others. What Im saying or attempting to illustrate is that its wrong for the most important people in our family unit, which people we expect to love us unconditionally, to instead downgrade us emotionally, and cause us to want to perish from life. But since its so difficult for them to stop doing hateful things, its that injured persons responsibility to walk through the situation while independently caring for their own needs of love and comfort; love you! This is so very important for becoming a self-reliant person.
Why not try reading up on a few books or videos, and C.ds which deal with the subject of self-reliance, and which will help you to grow towards a more safe and secure identity? Visit your local public library, go online, shop in specialized bookstores that stock self-help literature and resources. You may even try spiritual references that are encouraging as well. Whatever you decide, please dont continue to hurt your body. Be healthy. Draw towards sources or people that pull you away from damaging thoughts and compulsive harmful thinking. Learn to draw strong emotinal power and safe mental energy by seeing you as healed and as separate from the unhealthy negative examples of others. I hope that you find wonderful freedom from the current oppression and mental and emotional hurting.
