Depression Supporters Support Group
This community is dedicated to spouses, children, relatives, co-workers and others who are actively supporting someone suffering from depression or other serious mental illness. Depression can bring about intense sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive, which can have a grave impact on the ability of others trying to help.

The fact that your mom won't even go to a Dr. for a Diagnosis, severely sabotages any care you can give her from the beginning. Any medical help, medication, therapies...you're not a Dr., you can't do everything a Dr. can...you don't know all the Therapies and Treatments for Dementia. And none of this is your fault its just reality. If you're going to continue to care from your mom, then at the least you need to set some Rules and number one should be. "you have to go to a Dr. and get a Diagnosis so we have access to as much help and care as needed." If she won't help you that much, how can you even effectively help her.
If she won't help you, and this is making you ill, at what point do you say, "It's enough, I may be worsening your condition for all I know, I don't know enough about it and you won't let a Dr. help you....I can't be responsible for this."
At some point reality has to set in, and understanding that Medical Professionals have to be a part of this, whether it be outpatient or whether it be with your mom in a care home. There are really nice and good care facilities now days.
I'm sorry you have to make these decisions, and none of it has anything to do with whether you love your mom....making sure your mom gets the best care, that helps her live a healthy and as long a life with you as possible is showing as much love as you can.
Its a mentally exhausting situation, I hope you find some peace in your decision making soon.
Take care,
kat
