I have the flu and unable to see my father in the care home, and have been told that he has pneumonia and throat thrust, he has dementia and multi-myeloma and is 91years old. he has had him medication stopped as he is unable to swallow them. even broken up, and is not eating or drinking now and the care home hasn't even called for an ambulance and is waiting for the palliative nurse is going there tomorrow as she doesn't seemed to care.
You say they stopped his medications. What exactly is he taking meds for? There are sublingual (under the tongue dissolving) forms of pain meds. So swallowing isn't an issue for that. But they may need a doctors order for a change.
Is there anyone who could go there for you? Or maybe go with a face mask? I think you need to first figure out if dad is to be treated or is he on hospice and just made comfortable. You need to make peace with that choice. Figure out if you are upset because you can't be there or because of the care he is getting and that his time might be near. If he is on hospice I know how hard it is when the end does come. Lots of panic and second thoughts.
You need to get better yourself and then you can go visit and talk to the appropriate folks involved with his care.
