Between all of the doctor appointments, trips to ER, hospitalizations, care conferences, etc. I'm using up my PTO at an alarming rate. Yesterday was bad because he had an appointment at 1:00 and I planned to take my lunch hour then so I wouldn't need to use so much PTO. The Memory Care facility arranges transportation and I meet him at the doctor's office. About 11:00 a.m. my boss told me a client had requested a special meeting with us at 2:00 and asked if I would be back and I told her I should be. Dad was ready to leave by 1:20 but this time there was no sticker on the envelope with a phone number to call the driver to pick him up. The doctor's office called them and they said they had scheduled a pick up time of 2:00! Dad can't be left alone, so I had to stay there until 2:00. I was SO upset! Not only did I have to use more of my PTO so heaven help me if I would get sick or need surgery - I'd have to go without pay. But also there are layoff's and staff hours being cut every day at work now and missing an important meeting could make me a target if there are more layoff's. I called and told them not to schedule pickups again - they need to give me a phone number to call when he's done so I don't have to wait so long.

What do other people do? Dad can't go alone to his appointments and I'm the only one who can go with him. But I'm also working full time and need the income to support the grandson I'm raising and I also have healthcare POA for my brother who's disabled with Huntington's Disease so I'm spread pretty thin. Any suggestions?
