Moms routine was when her S.S. check went into Direct Deposit, I would take her to the bank, get it cashed, she would separate the money into her budget envelopes marked electric. water, cable, etc. ,then when the bills came in, she'd give me the money to deposit for that bill, write the check and pay it! An old fashioned routine with a lot of trips to the bank but it worked for her and even though she had dementia, she could still do it just fine! Until about 6 months ago! I started getting $ to deposit but she wasn't writing the checks to pay the bills! I kept letting her do it her way, just tried to help her write the checks...but then she started hiding the bills and I didn't even know we had them ( she usually got the mail because I work) and then one month we cashed the check and she lost the money completely!( It's somewhere in this house because she hardly leaves it,,, I just haven't found it yet!) After that, I stopped taking her to withdraw the check and get it cashed...set all the bills up to be paid automatically from her account That was 6 months ago and everything is running smoothly, But I can't make her understand how its being done now. Every day ,,,at least 10x/day she yells because I won't take her to the bank anymore and accuses me of stealing her money. ( From what I've read that's par for the course!) She gets really scared because she thinks the utilities are going to be shut off any minute, we're going to lose the house, be living on the street. I've said everything I can think of to reassure her. but nothing works! I've showed her the "bill paid" receipts, her bank statements... all the normal things... and I've resorted to lying saying the companies and lawyers want bills paid this way, etc. She yells that she never did anything wrong and the companies and lawyers and me had no right to do this to her! I just don't know what else I can say to calm her down! Is there any way or are these fights just something I have to put up with till the day she dies!?! Any suggestions?!
