I was told by moms Dr that sleepaids can cause unwanted confusion. She is always up and down at night, changing nightgowns and putting on clothes and taking them off. Its frustrating!

Does he stay in bed and fidget/talk or does he get up and get into stuff around the house?

mostly he stays in bed and fidgets, and talks to me. If he didn't talk to me that might be a little better but I am a light sleeper as it is and he WILL NOT sleep with out me. If I try to move to another room he will hunt me down and lie down next to me. As a matter of fact his new thing is, starting at around 4 pm he asks where he is sleeping, who he will be sleeping with, where he will be sleeping. He will repeat this series of questions repeatedly until we go to bed. As of right now he has already done it 3 times and it is only 5:30! I guess this may be his version of sundowning.

I've heard that Melatonin helps some with sleep issues. A lot less issues with side effects of regular sleeping medications. I don't have any personal experience with this, but thought I would mention it. My Father takes his low dose of Seroquel at night which seems to help him sleep more soundly most nights. I would ask your doctor and if you find something that works, please share with us. This is an ever changing battle for so many. Good luck and I hope you get a good nights sleep tonight!

We have an appointment with his neuro in 2 weeks so I'll let you all know what they say.

I have trouble with nightmsres at night and getting up to go to the bathroom or i take my c-pap mask off. And think its broken. None of my family recognise i have a problem.

I just read that having a night lite or more light at night helps with sleeplessness and confusion so I tried it and it did help.

Kat, I am a little worried about you....who is with you? What state do you live in? It sounds like you need help.

I'm new here, taking care of my father in law who lives with us. He does the same thing, wanders at night, but he will just stand there mostly talking to himself or his dead mother and saying "COME ON" we are upstairs so we don't hear him and let him wander. handles off the stove, double key locks on the doors.

I've read all the entrys regarding sleep aids. My father has similar behavior..he fidgets in bed...he rarely sleeps continuously through the night, etc. We have changed his meds numerous times. We are beyond the stage where we can try natural remedies. He is on Trazedone at night to help him sleep continuously. He also takes Seroquel and Risperdol during the day, and we give him Ativan as needed for anxiety. At some point, his sleeplessness and anxiety does so much harm that we feel comfortable giving him a sleep aid so that he can rest. My father has severe mood swings that are punctuated with aggressive/violence and then severe crying spells.

Thanks, I will take this info to his next appointment.
