I'm sorry to say that my father passed away. Dad was living on his own near us and doing fine. Then suddenly he began showing symptoms of dementia and was diagnosed with Alzheimers. He went into a memory care facility and deteriorated very, very quickly. He went from living on his own to being in a wheel chair and needing help feeding himself in just seven months. The memory care facility was excellent with very caring staff who called an ambulance several times because Dad would suddenly become unresponsive. The ER said he had problems with his blood pressure dropping extremely low to where he would be unresponsive for a time period. But by the time the ambulance got him to the hospital he would be nearly recovered and they never did find a cause or solution. One day it dropped so low he was blue and the staff called the ambulance, he coded before he made it to the hospital, and nothing worked to bring his blood pressure back up, so he slipped away. I was there with him but he was sedated and unconscious.

Now that I think back, I am actually wondering if he even had Alzheimers or if he actually had brain damage caused by the fluctuating blood pressure that I believe was happening for at least three years. For a couple of years before he displayed symptoms of demetia, he would doze off sitting in a chair and sleep very soundly several times a day. Now I'm wondering if it was actually low blood pressure that caused that exremely sound sleep and was the first symptoms of his problem. I don't know if anyone else has had anything like this happen?
