Is there a certian age for Dementia?

I have a friend who wrote and asked for prayer for a member of her family. They are in their 20's so my question is does Dementia only happen to seniors?

Dementia comess in many forms. Most hit those later in life, but there are forms, "early onset Alzheimers" that are effecting people younger and younger. There are also dementia's that can be from certain diseases, Parkinson's and others and I have heard of a few very young people being afflicted with this.

Such a sad thing to imagine, so young with so few memories to lose. This is just what I've read and seen, certainly no expert. I guess if I knew of a young person diagnosed with this I would sure be looking for other opinions or causes as I think it's fairly rare. Hope that helps.

I think there are many types of dementia and can be caused by many things- dementia is a generic word for 'brain malfunction'. My husband is only 60 and is in stage 5-6.

Yes this is called early onset dementia or Alzheimer's. I was the regional director for the National Alzheimer's Association for seven years and my youngest client was 35. My prayers are with you and your friend. She will need you more than ever now. God Bless
