I am new to this support group so have patience with me please. Doctors don't diagnos Dad with Dementia however they give him the medicine for it and to help with memory . I love my dad and I feel like something is wrong. It seems like everything is happening so fast and this is new to me. we have no help from family. some family even causes trouble. Dad is in a nursing home and
he recieves good care. I would like dad to live with us however husband says no. Mother will not visit she has sad memories about the nursing home.
we take dad on outings for family dinner and a ride so he can spend time with mom. However all Mom does is pick at him and go ugh! when she looks at him. This really hurts. We are trying to sell my parents home and have mom live in a semi assisted living place. any ideas will be helpful on how to deal or reduce stress . I go for walks and that helps. I visit dad every day and take mom her dinner and visit with her too.
I am concerned that dad is on the wrong meds?
however the nurse said he was doing fine I feel like i am betraying my dad by having him in a nursing home. He looks forward to my visit. I have made friends with people and staff that live there. I call or go to visit at any time of the day. So they are always good to dad. lol

Has anyone explained to you what level of dementia your Dad has?
You say that you've got your Dad in a safe place where they are good to him and he is being cared for. And that your mother is also in a safe place, but not the one your father is in.
Stop feeling guilty. It sounds like right now both of them are safe, and that is what matters most.
Go to www.alz.org and look around there. You need to educate yourself about dementia and the Alzheimer's Association is the place to do it.
And you can call their 24/7 hotline and ask questions there too. You can also come here and ask questions.

OK, I understand why you might have promised no nursing home. I don't agree, but I understand. I don't understand why no Hospice.
Can you explain that decision?
't remember what all the doctor tells them, either, and my mom will NOT let me go to the doctors with her. So he caves and I haven't been able to talk to any of her doctors. All I know is what the nurse where they live and what my stepdad have told me, that she has dementia. Talk about frustrating.
I understand your frustrations about Hospice, but you might find things different the next time you need them.
I'm aware that the rules for Hospice are different with each Hospice agency, each state, and each disease. Oh, and WHEN you last tried to use them.
Depending on what was wrong with your grandmother they might or might not have been making appropriate decisions. For that time. For that place. For that particular person and disease.
As for levels, my husband's doctors didn't give me levels either. I worked those out for myself from the list on the Alzheimer's Association website. It has been posted here too.
