I can't find any info on this subject and I am really curious! My parents were so different(don't know how they ever got together in the first place!) and their dementia is so different! Does one have anything to do with the other!
My Dad was outgoing and happy, belonged to all kinds of clubs, volunteer and community orgs., was very social and had lots of friends,very liberal and open-minded and accepting of everything...in his dementia, he was very sweet and always thanking people for whatever small thing they did for him and kept talking about what a lucky man he had been to have so much in his life!
My Mom was always very close-minded, critizing everthing and everyone if they didn't do it "her way"! She didn't socialize,wouldn.t even go vote cause she might see someone, wouldn't go to my Dads Firehouse Banquet(he was President)because the ladies were all sluts or whores... I could talk about her forever! Now in her dementia, she is still criticizing, judgemental, unappreciative ...sometimes downright nasty, even violent(only towards me! The liar and the sneak!)! My brother says shes like she always was except 10x worse!
Does how u were in life determine how dementia will affect u?!?

I would talk to her doctors and see what anti-anxiety medications can be given to calm her down. More often than not, this is the route that the family has to take.
Is she taking any type of medications now? Is your mother in a facility? Don't take to heart what she's saying to you now? It's the disease that just makes them more miserable than they were before. Not fun though, I sympathize with you there.
One of the things that happens in dementia is damage to the executive portion of the brain. This controls "appropriate" behavior. For many people sexual behavior and thoughts go wild. The inhibitions are gone. This can also take the controls off everything else. My mom will say wild things about people.
So to answer your question I don't think dementia changes people. I think it just takes all of the filters off and you see what they were thinking deep inside.
