There should be a Senior Services nonprofit agency in your area. I also have seen a Senior Citizen magazine in our city-run recreation centers that give info on assisted living places. Let us know what resources you find. Many of us will be looking soon if we already haven't.

I've been dreaming lately that someone should come up with a boarding school for seniors, just like a kindergarten school would be.
They could attend 3 weeks at a time somewhere in the Pacific, no phone calls allowed, their health history would go with them, and if anything there would be a specialized hospital nearby for them. There would be plenty of activities and things to do and good meals.

I can dream can't I?
It would be such a nice break for some of us.
Of course the government would pay for it, to support caregivers.

75 year old, intelligent woman who suffers from a variety of serious health issues, as well as some kind of cognitive impairment, along with long-standing Depression, Anxiety, and Personality Disorder ? It sounds just like my mom. And she is in a regular nursing home. She doesn't assocate with or get involved in activitys except for Bingo. She is in a parinoid state and thinks everyone is stealing from her. But no reason as of yet for a MH. Sorry I don't know much about assisted living except they are expensive and charge for everything. My Mom is on Medicaid and is in a very nice place as far as the caregivers. I have a friend in assisted living she to is on Medicaid. But she is able to walk and go to the bathroom alone.

I'm currently interning at a nursing home and I think placing her in one is your best bet.
It could save her life.
If she's not able to independently do ADL for herself she needs to be placed there. In the nursing homes there are people who are highly intelligent but are there because they are dependent and need assistance with their daily living.
Placing a mother in a nursing home is rather the one of the toughest decision a family can make but it's vital if you want her to be around longer. I remember when we decided to temporarily place my kid sister in a children's nursing home and it's not easy but trust me it was helpful.
Assisted living facilities number one priority is to assist those who cannot live independently and the best part is there are nurses available 24/7 and activities and events she can attend all depending upon the nursing home.
Please look up some nursing homes and visit them, speak to a social worker and do all the research you can. Good luck!
