Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition in which low-grade inflammation results in pain in the joints, caused by wearing of the cartilage that covers and acts as a cushion inside joints. Due to decreased movement because of the pain, regional muscles may atrophy, and ligaments may become more lax. OA is the most common form of arthritis.

i just had an mri done i havent yet been sent to the knee doctor so i dont have an idea what treatment i will get but my leg hurts so bad at times all i can do is cry im getting were i can hardly walk on it its so painful anyway my impression moderate to severe tricompartmental degenerative changes with joint space narrowing articular carilage loss and marrow edema greatest in the patellofemoral compartment anyway it sounds like i may have to have surgery just looking for answers if anyone has any good sugestions on easing the pain and knowledge on this i would like to know

Dear Friend, the best thing you can do now for your knee is keep ice on it when it is inflamed and keep it elevated. Also try to keep your range of motion (as best as you can) in case you have to have a knee replacement or other surgery. Advil or motrin are good for pain and inflamation. Get to the emergency room and get a shot. Sometimes you just have to help yourself if your doctor won't.

I found that heat helps my knee more so than ice. But I do agree on elevation, also ibuprofen for pain and inflammation.
I did have a shot, but it got worse before it got better, and overall was not worth it. Please keep us posted on your progress.

i took another cortizone shot in the knee and this time it was twice as painful as the first shot and im still having pain i have a big knot above the knee i have asked two doctors what it could be one said its coming from the edma another said its the cortizone medication im concerned it may be a blood clot i have noticed if im on my leg very long the veins in my foot swells im also considering seeing another orthopedic doctor im almost afraid to go back to him i tryed telling him before he gave me the shot my leg was to painful he finally talked me into it and he is wanting to give me two more cortizone shots i know i cannot handle that kind of pain againthe first one i had about eight months ago wasnt as painful as this last one i dont know what to do at this point my leg still has pain and when im on it for awhile it starts getting weak at this point i dont know if i should see another doctor or if i should go back to this doctor im up for suggestions
